Activities in the Mt Washington Valley
| |

The North Conway / Conway area has the largest concentration of tax-free shopping, unique restaurants (lots of them offering a gluten free option), and recreational facilities in the White Mountains.
North Conway is home to the Conway Scenic Railroad and its beautifully restored Victorian Station, which was built in 1874. Taking the scenic train is a wonderful way to visit the Mt Washington Valley. The Conway Scenic Railroad welcomes also Thomas the Tank Engine , the Polar Express Event, The Pumpkin Patch Express, Santa's Holiday Express, and more...

Adjacent to the railroad station is the 18-hole North Conway Country Golf Club. With 8 other golf clubs in the Mt Washington Valley, including Hale's Location , you have plenty of choices to enjoy your favorite sport. And for little ones and their whole family, mini-golfing is also an option at the Pirates' Cove Adventure Golf.
Family or romantic carriage rides and horseback riding are available year round. Kayaking or canoeing along the Saco River is one of families' favorites.
If you rather love artistic activities, the attractions in this area are many: an in-town summer repertory theatre, proposing you all summer long broadway musicals, a community theatre with year round quality dramas & comedies, summer concerts in Schouler Park in the center of North Conway, an Aerial Adventure Park, mountain coaster and more on Cranmore Mountain, and more...
Of course, North Conway Village is also famous for its tax-free outlet stores at Settlers' Green Village along Route 16, but also its wonderful downtown with little shops such as Zeb's Country store, The penguin and more... Shopping is a must when you stay in the Valley!
To the West are White Horse and Cathedral Ledges, both favorites with rock climbers. A seasonal road goes to the top of Cathedral Ledge where there's a great view of the valley below. At the Ledge's base, Echo Lake State Park offers a sandy beach and a picnic area. The North-South Road paralleles Route 16 from North Conway Village to Route 302 in Redstone, offering views of Pudding Pond, woods and fields along the way. It can be accessed directly from Kearsarge Road, where the Cranmore Mountain Lodge sits.
Just South of Conway, Route 16 intersects the Kancamagus Highway, which runs for 34 1/2 miles from Conway to Lincoln, which is one of the most spectacular sections of the White Mountains Trail. It traverses the White Mountain National Forest, crosses the flank of Mt. Kancagamus and climbs to nearly 3,000 feet, providing dramatic views. Along its length are hiking trails, federally designated Scenic Areas and some stunning overlooks.
The White Mountains offers also so many waterfall to discover, whether along Route 302 or the Kancamagus, or suprising you along a hiking trail, as well as a dozen of covered bridges to spot within an afternoon drive...
And of course, don't forget our yearly events, the March Maple Madness Inn-to-Inn Tour and the Ghost & Goblin Inn-to-Inn Tour!
Are you travelling with children?
No matter their age, there are so many interesting activities to do, just minutes away from Cranmore Mountain Lodge.
Storyland is of course an enchantement for every child and is just 15 minutes away from us. They now have a real circus with several shows every day! It opens usually for Memorial Weekend until Columbus Day (only weekends starting Labor Day).

You can also try Santa's Village, just 45 minutes from North Conway Village. Visit Remick Country Doctor Museum and Farm, a living historic farm, with exhibits that change with the season so there is always something new for the curious of every age to discover.

In Summer also, kids of all age can enjoy the Aerial Adventure Park with a mountain coaster, giant swing, summer tubing, Bungy trampoline, disc golf and more at Cranmore Mountain, only 1 mile from us.
Hiking with children can be a challenge, except when you choose the right hikes! Try Black Cap Mountain, just a short drive from us, that offers scenic views of all the Valley. Diana's Bath is also a very popular hike among families. After a short walk of about a mile (that can easily be done with a stroller!), the children will be rewarded by a serie of wonderful falls and swimming holes!

You can organize a half day of climbing with your child ! Bring your fishing poles for some fishing fun in our pond stocked with rainbow trout!
When the weather is not so good, you can try the Children's Museum , just 5 minutes away, or the Hartmann Model Railroad & Toy Museum (see below for other ideas of activities for rainy days).
In Winter, go tubing on Cranmore Mountain Ski Resort, try snowshoeing or x-country skiing for FREE at Great Glen Trails where you can also go dogsledding, climb up Mt Washington in the Snow coach, take a sleigh Ride at Farm by the River, go ice skating in Schouler Park downtown North Conway or treat them with a journey to the Polar Express! You can try the Fun Zone at Cranmore , just 1 mile away from us, offering on weekends family tennis, hockey, a giant inflatable obstacle course and bouncing house, and even climbing walls! There are so many things to do, you will need more than 3 days to discover them all!
